Enduring Another Nut Case

Okay… We’ve had another incident where a whacko with a gun has killed a bunch of innocent people for no apparent reason. What happens next is, in my book, as disgusting as the actual crime itself. I’m referring to the media frenzy that we have to endure. All the networks feel it’s imperative that they send someone to the site for the live shots… like we really need to see that.

This one was over within a few hours. The perpetrator was captured (unfortunately) alive and now is going to face trial. That should be the end of the story for most of us other than one bi-line to let us know that the creep has been found guilty and is headed for death row. Too bad the media doesn’t have the good sense to let it go that easily.

Today… a few days after the fact, the perpetrator of this hideous crime was brought before a judge for the first time. The radio station I listen to and I can only imagine every television network felt that it was news worthy to broadcast the proceeding in its entirety. What should have been a simple how do you plead and granting the prosecutor’s request for no bond turned into at least a half hour of the judge letting family members of the victims talk about their deceased relatives after which he set bond at one million dollars. Really? We’re actually going to give this jack ass an opportunity to get out of jail to wait trial? See, besides the media using these tragedies for rating purposes we have judges without any balls officiating over the case.

I believe I caught a clip of Obama’s comments where he said this kind of thing doesn’t happen in other parts of the world. Someone should remind him that in other parts of the world if this kind of thing did happen the perpetrator would have been brought before a judge as a formality prior to being lead out back of the courthouse to be executed. The problem isn’t guns it’s the fact that our judicial system treats these animals like royalty and the media idolizes them.
