Fight Between Religious Beliefs and Gay Couples

I guess I’m missing the boat with the flap over the State of Indiana’s attempt to have religious beliefs trump the sexual discrimination laws.

Personally I don’t see why we need either law… Why the government feels they need to (or the right to) force a behavior, in this case serving same sex couples, on businesses who’s owners have strong (usually religious) objections to same sex unions.

If company A doesn’t want to do business with a same sex couple they should have that right of refusal. Same sex couples should respect that decision and simply take their business elsewhere. A major part of the problem is that those who support same sex unions have no respect for the feelings or beliefs of others.

Chances are that those businesses that are willing to change along with the times are going to flourish and those who aren’t willing to adapt will see their business dry up and they’ll eventually close their doors or decide to re-evaluate their position.

If we were to let private business sort out the problem over time we wouldn’t have all these emotions running amuck. Emotions on both side of the issue that do nothing but harm those involved and create a huge divide within the population.
