Canadian Joshua Boyle, his wife Caitlan Colemen and their three children were released by the Taliban in Afghanistan after being held in captivity for five years. In total the couple had four children, all born while in captivity. Boyle making the claim that one of the children was killed by their captors and that his wife on one occasion was raped by their guards… something the Taliban are quickly denying.
Why does this whole story smell rotten to me? The wife was pregnant when they were taken captive so I can give them a pass for having one child born in captivity, but to reproduce another three times during the course of 5 years? Supposedly they were kept in a space that was described as a chicken coop… not exactly the honeymoon suite at the Hilton. Nobody seems to be undernourished or weak from a lack of meaningful exercise. Looking at their physical condition and mental capacity to face the media with their story just makes me think that we’re not getting the whole story.
