Stockton, California is getting ready to experiment with Universal Basic Income or UBI. I’m sure we’re going to hear a lot about this concept during the next few elections as the Liberals and Socialist candidates pull out all the stops to lure voters.
The idea is to give those residents who are not making what they feel is a basic standard income a check to make up the difference. The city filed for bankruptcy in 2012 after getting in over their heads building arenas and marinas in an attempt to lure in tourist dollars… now they feel initiating this Universal Basic Income program they will retain their citizenship.
I’m no expert, but what I see happening is the city is going to see a huge influx of lazy people who see an opportunity for a handout. The city will end up spending millions of dollars on people that have no intention of giving anything back to the city.
They are calling this an experiment… however once you start feeding these deadbeats from the government tit there is no way to ween them off the government paycheck, so the city is eventually going to be in the same boat they were in a few years ago, way in over their heads.
